PORTRAITS WITH MORE ROOM TO EXPERIMENT

Editorial portraits give us more freedom than a traditional headshot. We can play with lighting, wardrobe, backgrounds, composition and expression to create photographs with a little more personality and range.

I’ve spent more than 10 years working in film and television lighting, and this is where I get to bring more of that experience into the studio. We can keep things clean and simple or push the lighting and styling further depending on what you’re looking for.

You don’t need to arrive with a fully formed concept. Bring references if you have them, or we can figure things out as we shoot. Sessions are collaborative and move at your pace, with the freedom to change direction when something interesting is working.

Headshots sessions start at $299

$299 + HST includes your studio session and one professionally retouched image. After the session, choose your favourites from a private gallery. Additional retouched images are $75 each.

How long does an editorial portrait session take?

Session length varies depending on what we’re creating. We can keep things simple and focused, or spend more time experimenting with different lighting, wardrobe, backgrounds and ideas. There’s no need to rush something that’s working.

Do I need to have a specific idea in mind?

Not at all. You’re welcome to come with references or a specific concept, but you don’t need to. We can experiment with lighting, wardrobe, backgrounds and framing during the session and see where things go.

Who are editorial portrait sessions for?

Anyone looking for something beyond a standard headshot. I photograph actors, musicians, artists, models, creatives and professionals, but you don’t need to fit into a particular category to book an editorial session.

What should I wear for an editorial portrait session?

Bring a range of options that feel like you and fit what you want to create. Interesting textures, layers, colours and accessories can all give us more to work with. If you’re unsure, bring it along and we can go through everything before we shoot.

Can we create multiple looks?

Yes. Editorial sessions are a good opportunity to experiment. We can change wardrobe, lighting, backgrounds and the overall feel of the photographs to create a gallery with some variety.

Do you retouch editorial portraits?

Yes. Your selected images are professionally retouched, with the amount of retouching depending on the photograph and what we’re trying to create. I still want the finished images to look natural, but there’s more room to experiment than with a traditional headshot.
